The Greasy Whiskers is an energetic, Edinburgh-based 2-6 piece folk band that plays a vast repertoire of what they like to call "transatlantic folk music" including Roaring Scottish and Irish folk ballads, American old-time, authentic country, bluegrass, country rags, and even 20s jazz parlor ballads.

Tomass Mencis, a Latvian-born fingerpicking and old-time/bluegrass guitarist, is also known for his roaring vocals and country harmonies. Tommy has a soft spot for blues, country, ragtime, and early jazz music and often plays a resonator guitar.

Matthew Robert from Falkirk is a clawhammer banjo player who leads lots of old-time and Scottish ballads and instrumental tunes and has a great way with harmonies.

Marta Stryjecka is a Czech singer and Indian Harmonium player who performs American and Scottish traditional folk ballads and livens the music with her angelic voice and dynamic harmonies.

Carlos Sandino from Canada/Nicaragua plays the mandolin and sings six-shooter cowboy ballads as well as traditional Irish tunes!

Jamie is our Edinburgh born rhythm guitarist, comfortable playing in multiple styles of music his job is to lay the foundation for the rest of the band.

Last but not least we have Aedan Fish, the outstanding, Alaska-born double bass player! Aedan has a jazz background and he will follow anything we play without a problem!

The bunch have a fantastic mix of influences as well as different geographical backgrounds which make the band a wonderful folk music chameleon. Couldn't argue enough that these guys are best experienced live!
